田子(たご)の浦(うら)に　うちいでて見れば　白妙(しろたへ)の

富士(ふじ)の高嶺(たかね)に　雪は降りつつ

山部赤人(やまべのあかひと)

Walking out to Tago no Ura beach, I saw Mt.Fuji covered with snow. It is falling and falling on the highest peak.

How beautiful and heavenly the shape of the mountain is !

Yamabe no Akahito

海の青と富士山の白。鮮やかな色のコントラストが詠まれています。

絵画のような歌ですよね。

Must I spend alone through this long long night like a mountain bird having a long long-dragging tail.

柿本人麿は飛鳥時代に活躍しました。万葉集の代表的な歌人のひとりです。(万葉集は日本で最古の歌集です)

秋の夜、女性は愛する人を待っていたのに、彼は来てくれなかった。切ないですね。

One autumn night, a woman has been waiting for the man she loved. But he didn't visit her. It's so sad.

衣ほすてふ　天（あま）の香具山（かぐやま）

持統天皇（じとう　てんのう）

Passed spring, summer seems to come. The silk white robes are spread to dry on Mt. Ama no Kaguyama.

父は天智天皇、夫は天武天皇です。

天の香具山は奈良県橿原市にあります。古から神の山として崇拝されています。

この歌を読むと、初夏の爽やかな景色が思い浮かべられます。

Empress Jito was the third female emperor of the Asuka period.

Her father was Emperor Tenji, and her husband was Emperor Tenmu.

Mt.Ama no Kaguyama is located in Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture. It has been worshiped as a mountain of God since ancient times.

When I read this poem, I come to mind a refreshing scenery of early summer.

秋の田の　仮庵（かりほ）の庵（いお）の　苫（とま）をあらみ

我が衣手（ころもで）は　露（つゆ）にぬれつつ

天智天皇（てんぢ　てんのう）

At the sheltering rough hut, let the autumn rice field. My Kimono sleeves are getting wet with the night dew under the rush-mat roof.
